From 7th to 8th May 2024, an international training workshop for the EDERA project was held in Madrid (Spain), hosted by the Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Emergencies at the National School of Civil Protection.
EDERA’s objective is to develop a methodology for the comprehensive forecasting of flood impacts in urban areas, in the basins of large rivers and those due to flash floods, which allows early warning to the population for their preventive evacuation from exposed areas through an innovative real-time early warning web-based platform.
During this 2-day workshop, over 60 attendees (consortium partner representatives, attendees from civil protection authorities in Spain, Portugal and Finland, and stakeholders) had the opportunity to use EDERA products developed for real-time forecasting of storm and heavy rainfall impacts with local datasets.
One of the highlights of the event was the analysis of the storm Nelson, a cross-border event which affected Portugal and Spain on 28 March-1 April 2024, using EDERA products.
It was also an opportunity to gather insightful feedback from end-users, ensuring civil protection authorities and first responders play a pivotal role in shaping the project’s direction.
Venue: Escuela Nacional de Protección Civil, Cam. de Salmedina, s/n, 28524 Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Madrid
